Naturally occuring substances with anti-MAP properties

In addition to antibiotics, there are a number of naturally occurring substances that have been shown, in-vitro, to have anti-MAP properties.  In this thread I will document those substances.  If you find a new substance, add a reply along with a reference.

  • Oregano Oil.  Oregano is plant which is a member of the mint family.  It is a herb commonly used in Italian cuisine.  The oil extract has been used in herbal medicine since ancient times, however its anti-viral or anti-bacterial properties have not been proven.  In-vitro it has been shown to inhibit the growth of MAP.
  • Cinnamon Oil. Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark or a number of different trees.  It is an aromatic condiment added to a number of different savoury and sweet dishes.  It has a long history of use in traditional medicine.  A recent trial investigating its benefit on type 2 Diabetes was inconclusive.  In-vitro is has been shown to inhibit the growth of MAP
